Sergey Goryaev was born in 1958 in Moscow.
He is a National artist of Russia, a member of the Union of Painters of Russia from 1986, a laureate of the Governmental prize of Russian Federation in sphere of culture, a professor and the chairman of Moscow Union of Painters of Russia.
Sergey Goryaev was born in the family of Vitaly Goryaev, who is a famous Russian painter, graphic artist and National painter of the USSR.
From the early ages he lived in a climate of art. A lot of art workers such as Alexandr Tvardovsky, Boris Livanov, Nadya Lezhe and Yuri Olesha visited Goryaev’s house.
In the youth Sergey wanted to be a sportsman and on 16 years achieved a success and took a title of candidate for the master of sports of the USSR. Then after serious trauma he left the sport and returned to the fine art.
When he was 20 years old in 1978 being a student of the artistic and industrial college named by Stroganov Sergey Goryaev began to exhibit his own paintings on the youth exhibition of the Union of Painters. It was the uncommon thing for that time.
From that time he has taken part in tens of international, All-Union, All-Russian and Moscow exhibitions. His paintings are in museums and private collections in Russia, Canada, France, Italy, China, Turkey and others.
Sergey Goryaev is known as monumental painter. Numerous objects, where he created monumental and decorative productions, represent synthesis of modern metaphysics of image with adjusted forms of beauty.
The manner of Sergey Goryaev, his sense of “big style” and devotion to the cultural tradition became apparent in such works as artistic design of consulate general of Russia in Montreal (Canada), Russian cultural centre on Red Hills in Moscow, Moscow international house of music and others.
The works of art which he created for Khanty-Mansiysk play the most important role in his creation work. For the last years he created here the artistic design of the House-museum of National painter of USSA V. Igoshev, composition “Crystal” for the Museum of geology, oil and gas, mosaic composition “Ugra” for the commercial and business centre “Guest court”. Now Sergey Goryaev is working at the Gallery and studio of Gennady Raishev and at setting of a performance for the “Ob-Ugrian peoples’ theatre”.
Sergey Goryaev grew fond of beautiful and severe land of the Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug and visits it very often. He painted several pictures on the subject of Ugra.
He was awarded with golden medal of Russian Academy of Art for the composition “Crystal”.
In 2005 Sergey Goryaev became the first laureate of the prize of the Government of Russian Federation in sphere of culture for the artistic design of the House-museum of National painter of USSA V. Igoshev.
